It gives me immense pleasure to introduce National Institute of Blood Disease & Bone Marrow Transplantation (NIBD) to you all. NIBD) is the largest non-governmental health organization in the country which provides comprehensive and modern medical care in blood diseases and transplantation to all. It’s a symbol of eternity, peace, devotion and human values. NIBD is where patients come first. It is a milestone to a long journey started 8 years ago with a vision to create and develop an institute to cater the needs of people suffering from blood disorders. To serve not only people of Pakistan but also of this whole region. NIBD’s mission is to treat blood diseases and also to make people aware of their prevention, and works towards ensuring rehabilitation of patients after treatment. NIBD has treated over 13000 patients and spend over 20 million rupees per year on patient support. NIBD’s patients are predominantly from the lower middle class coming from all over Pakistan. Many of them are financially incapable of affording modern diagnostic, treatment and transplant facilities which are very costly. NIBD’s patients support programme depends substantially on contributions from the public, corporate bodies and citizens to provide treatment to deserving patients.
NIBD’s extensive facilities are fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment which enables it to provide treatment related to blood diseases and cancer. NIBD’s transplant team is the pioneer of bone marrow transplantation in Pakistan. So far this team has carried our over 200 blood and bone marrow transplantation. Before this, patients used to go abroad for this treatment. This also means that many patients, who would have to go abroad for costly treatment, can now be treated within the country, thereby saving valuable foreign exchange. In this era, research and education is the mainstay of human development. At NIBD, our emphasis is on research and development. Publication of research papers is encouraged.
Happy reading.
