The NIBD is a one stop centre offering diagnostic and treatment facilities for blood disorders. A multidisciplinary team approach gives patients the best possible chance of fighting the diseases. Mostly the treatment is planned on an outpatient basis in our friendly day care ward. Here the atmosphere is relaxing and help to alleviate patient's anxiety and apprehension; and to overcome a complication of the disease. Our caring staff try to help in fighting with the disease.

 

Thalassaemia Unit

 

Thalassaemia is the most common genetic disorder in Pakistan where the carrier rate is 5-8%. Thousands of children are born each year with ß-thalassaemia major requiring blood transfusion regularly. Follow-up clinic, transfusion, iron chelation and general medical check up is part of the this unit. At our centre, we offer a comprehensive plan of treatment to the affected family; this covers care of the affected baby, genetic counseling, ante-natal diagnosis for future pregnancies, iron chelation clinics, thalassaemia cardiology and endocrinology clinics and the only curative treatment ? bone marrow transplantation.

 

Haemophilia Unit

 

NIBD takes the pride in offering comprehensive haemaophilia care in Pakistan. We are skilled to provide consultation to other centres for complex haemophilia issues, follow up clinic, physiotherapy and rehabilitation service, joint clinic; hepatitis clinic etc. We are the centre which provide solutions to all surgical problems to haemophilia patients across the country. We work closely with National Member Organization, The World Federation of Haemophilia and other international agencies working for haemophilia.

25-beds day care ward caters the need of patients coming in for blood transfusion, platelet transfusion, chemotherapy etc. Trained nursing staff administers blood transfusion and chemotherapy. Its working hours are from 9 am till 9 pm, 6 days a week.
