Pathological Laboratory / Sections

Laboratory diagnosis has become the cornerstone for development of most clinical disciplines. Accurate laboratory test results are vital for prompt patient management. The BDC laboratory offers consultation in all major disciplines of pathology. NIBD Memorial Cancer Hospital's Department of Pathology is recognized by the CPSP (College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan). Recently, the laboratory has received ISO-9001-2000 Quality Management System certification and Environment Management System and is accredited with RIQAS UK external quality assurance programme. It is divided, functionally, into seven sections:

- Histopathology
- Cytology
- Hematology
- Microbiology
- Clinical Chemistry
- Blood Bank
- Special Chemistry
- Immunology

The Department is headed by Dr. Tahir Shamsi fellow of the Royal College of Pathologist, UK. The Pathology Laboratory consists of the following staff:

The Laboratory is equipped with state of the art, fully automated analyzers. The laboratory functions 24 hours a day & seven days a week. The Laboratory works in three shifts namely Morning shift, Evening shift and Night shift. The Quality Controls, recommended internationally for the respective analyzers, are run at the start of every shift and the results are documented and the record is maintained for reference.
